Freshly out Mika has just launched his new album The Origin of Love in France, but we heard it too. All the songs are classic Mika, but one song stands out. On “Popular Song,” Mika samples the well known Wicked hit song “Popular,” originally made famous by Kristin Chenoweth. In the tune, Mika sings about dismissing the negative people who once abused him but have tried to befriend him after he became famous. He talks about the bullying, and homophobic abuse he suffered, singing:
Before the next time that you calling me crazy
Lazy, a faggot, or that…
Here’s the one thing that’s so amazing
It ain’t about that to be a looser baby
(…)
Popular, I know about popular
It’s not about who you are or your fancy car
You’re only ever who you were
Mika’s album is available in the UK from October 8. If you can’t wait till then, take a listen below!
